Uses of gelusil

Gelusil potentially relieves discomfort from:

  • Heartburn
  • Sour stomach
  • Acid indigestion
  • Extra gas such as belching, bloating
  • Feelings of pressure/discomfort in the stomach/gut

How the Gelusil works:

The dimethicone break up the gas bubbles in the gut.
Aluminum and magnesium antacids lowers the acid in the stomach. 

Directions to use gelusil 

This medication is taken by mouth after meals. It can also be taken before bedtime.
In case of liquid Gelusil, shake the bottle well before pouring the medicine. However, it should be taken without mixing with any other fluid except water.
In case of chewable tablets, chew thoroughly before swallowing. Thereafter, drink a full glass of water.
Refrigeration of Gelusil suspension improves its flavor. However, it should never be frozen.

Warnings for usage of gelusil

Never take more than 12 tablets in a 24-hour period. Do not use this product if you have kidney disease or have a magnesium restricted diet.

Precautions for usage of gelusil

  • Before taking the medicine, consult your doctor or pharmacist if you have the following medical conditions:
  • You are pregnant or you are a breastfeeding mother as this medication may pass into breast milk
  • You are on any nonprescription medicine like herbal preparation or dietary supplement
  • You are allergic to medicines, foods, or other substances
  • You are suffering from kidney problem including kidney stones, Alzheimer disease, stomach blockage, diarrhea, severe loss of body water (dehydration/fluid restriction)
  • You had appendicitis problem
  • You are a frequent alcohol user

Side effects for gelusil

  • Nausea
  • Loss of appetite
  • Constipation or diarrhea
  • Weakness
  • Headache

Notify you doctor if these symptoms persist or become severe. Also notify your doctor if you notice black, tarry stools while taking Gelusil.

Overdose of gelusil

In case of Gelusil overdose contact your doctor immediately.

Symptoms of overdose may include:

  • Dizziness
  • Fatigue
  • Weakness
  • Severe nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Loss of appetite
  • Drowsiness
  • Slow or shallow breathing
  • Loss of consciousness

Gelusil and pregnancy

In case if you are pregnant or you are planning to get pregnant, consult you doctor before taking Gelusil. You will need to discuss the benefits and risks of using Gelusil during pregnancy.
