Human pregnancy usually lasts for a period of about 40 weeks (just more than 9 months), which is calculated from the start of the last menstrual period till childbirth. This gestation period is divided into three trimesters of approximately three months each. The growth of the baby in the womb (uterus) occurs in stages during these three trimesters.
