Whether you develop heart infection or suffer from cardiovascular disease, the symptoms are usually similar. It is important to note these signs promptly so that you can rush to the doctor immediately and take correction action to avoid complications.
Let us have a look at some of the most common and obvious symptoms of heart diseases:
Chest pain or angina is arguably the most easily identifiable symptom of a heart ailment. It refers to a discomfort, fullness, burning feeling, aching, pressure, heaviness or painful sensation in the chest. You can also feel it in the shoulders, throat, neck, arms, back or jaw. The duration of angina or chest pain varies from a few seconds to a couple of days. In some cases, it can also occur periodically or sporadically.
Many people mistake chest pain occurring owing to a heart problem to be heartburn or indigestion. That is why it is important to get yourself checked by a doctor as soon as you experience such problems.
Dizziness or Lightheadedness:
Heart diseases can trigger bouts of dizziness and nausea. However, such episodes can also be caused by other factors like anemia, viral illness, dehydration, gastrointestinal disturbances, kidney problem, liver disease, neurological disorders and so on. Therefore, you need to do a thorough check-up in order to identify the source of such hazards.
In heart palpitations, a pause in heartbeat is often succeeded by a considerably stronger beat. This irregularity gives rise to a number of problems.
Lethargy or Fatigue:
You feel lazy, lethargic and tired to do anything. Fatigue usually dents your body’s ability to function at a normal level. You feel sleep deprived all the time and also suffer from daytime sleepiness. Though they can also be the effect of an organ disorder or any other health problem, they are also a common heart disease symptom.
Shortness of Breath:
Even regular activities like climbing up stairs or doing some basic exercises make you gasp for breath. It becomes more effective when you lie on your back. Certain lung conditions like asthma, bronchitis and emphysema can also be responsible for it. However, heart ailments too produce this problem very commonly.
These are the five main symptoms that a heart disease can trigger. Most of these are common for all heart disease types like coronary artery disease, arrhythmias, atrial fibrillation, cardiomyopathy, heart infections, valvular heart disease etc.
There are some specific signs too that are unique to different forms of heart diseases. For instance, cardiomyopathy or thick heart muscle usually causes swelling of the feet, ankles and legs and the abdomen getting bloated with fluid. Similarly, the symptoms of a heart infection can be fever, dry cough, unusual skin spots and rashes and swelling of the abdomen or legs.
No matter what the signs are, it is important to identify them and take preventive measures accordingly.
