We all love food and in the quest to explore new varietiesof foods we often land up having gastro problems.In many cases, food lovers don’t pay much attention to the quality of the food or to the hygine of the kitchen, where the food is prepared.It just needs a very small quantity of contaminated food or fluid to cause stomach infections. A bad stomach can make your day worstdue to the constant pain and gas. An unhealthy bowel system caused due to infections can be termed as Diarrhea. So, what exactly do you mean when you are down with diarrhea?

Diarrhea is the condition when one develops an urgent need to pass stools. Severe stomach ache, watery stools, fever, nausea and vomitingare the other symptoms experienced during diarrhea. Mostly diarrhea is caused due to consumption of contaminated foods or water with virus, bacteria or parasites.Diarrhea can be considered as our body’s natural instinct to get rid of the unwanted substance that has entered into the body. Normally, you don’t require any treatment, because the body itself is curing by disposing all that dirt or virus that has gone into the body.

Most of the doctors don’t suggest any medicines for diarrhea, they prescribe medicines for fever. There are many ingredients that are available in the kitchen itself that help to cure diarrhea. Here are a few things that can come handy to you in such situations.

Hydrate yourself-Most often diarrhea results in dehydration. This leads to fatigue and severe weakness, that worsens the patient’s condition. In diarrhea, you may have to run to the toilet quite a number of times and it can drain out all the water content from your body. So, it is very important to keep yourself well hydrated with lots of fluids. The best possible fluid is boiled and then cooled water. You can also choose to drink fruit juices, coconut water or you can prepare solution that can give you energy as well as hydrate your body.You have to add half a teaspoon of salt and 4 teaspoon of sugar to one litre of boiled cooled water. Drink this solution from time to time, it can relieve from nausea as well as give you energy to fight diarrhea.

Sip in black tea- This is the most commonly used home remedy.Add 4-5 drops of lemon juice to half a cup of black tea.  Drinking this concoction will help in reducing the frequency of passing loose watery stools.

Reduce the stomach pain with Ginger- Ginger is one of easily available things in any household. Ginger is good for digestion; it can be used to treat diarrhea as well. Having black tea mixed with crushed fresh ginger helps in reducing stomach pain and cramps. It is advisable to drink about two to three cups of this tea per day. You can also take ginger juice with lemon juice and pepper powder to recover from diarrhea quickly.

Get rid of diarrhea with yogurt- It is a well known fact that eating yogurt can cure stomach infections faster. Yogurt has helpful live bacterial cultures which reinstate the necessary and good bacteria in the body. The good bacteria play a pivotal role in reducing the effects of the stomach infection. You can choose to eat curd rice, eating bananas with yogurt or you can eat curd as such, in any form it helps to cure this condition.  But you have to take care that you avoid milk as it can increase the discomfort.

Nibble some non spicy foods to ease your upset stomach- Diarrhea tends to affect your desire to eat, however, it is very important to eat at the same time. So eat something light and non spicy, to keep away from feeling nauseated. You can eat salted biscuits, arrowroot biscuits, etc. so as to feel better.

It is important to keep yourself hydrated against the loss of water from your body. But, it doesn’t mean that you can consume any type of liquid. Make sure that you avoid alcohol, carbonated drinks, milk and beverages that are very cold. When you have an upset stomach try to stay away from spicy food as spices can aggravate the stomach irritation. It is better to avoid medicines that can stop diarrhea, as sudden control of diarrhea can lead to other problems later on. Last but not the least, don’t hesitate to see a doctor, if you have any other medical conditions.

All these home remedies mentioned here are always readily available in the kitchen itself.  So, the next time when you have an upset stomach don’t run for medicines, instead run to the kitchen.
