Garlic, Ginger, Shallots, Chives, scallions 

These four herbs have one cancer fighting ingredient in common which is diallyl disulfide or alliums. They help to prevent malignant growth of cells and inflammation of your body. Other anti-oxidants present in garlic, ginger, shallots, scallions, and chives are allicin, flavonoids, and quercetin. They shield your body naturally against carcinogens and eradicate free radicals from your system. You can receive the anti- cancer benefits of gingerol and zingerone by simply spicing up your curries with fresh paste or flakes of ginger.


Turmeric or Curcumin

One of the most common ingredients that we add in culinary preparations is turmeric. It has strong anti-inflammatory action on your body and is capable of improving efficacy of chemotherapy treatment. Amanda Bontempo, RD, CDN, an ambulatory oncology dietician at Montefiore Medical Center in the Bronx, New York, recommends turmeric in an anticancer diet because it contains curcumin which is one of the most powerful anti-inflammatory agents discovered till date.



Cinnamon is used widely as a culinary spice in Asian countries and it available as sticks or powdered form. Proanthocyanidins are the anti-carcinogens found in cinnamon show their activity by depriving cancer cells of nutrition. This way they cannot multiply and die eventually.

Black pepper and cayenne pepper

While black pepper contains the naturally occurring strong anti-oxidant- piperine, cayenne pepper is blessed with capsaicin, which is equally toxic to cancer cells. Studies have shown that the latter is capable of retarding and killing growth of cancerous cells of the prostate gland. Regular consumption of black pepper can inhibit growth of breast tumour.


Parsley and celery

Apigenine oil present in parsley and celery potentially inhibit growth of cancer. It prevents growth of blood vessels that nourish the cancerous cells. Apart from that, these two leafy greens are loaded with antioxidants that protect your cells from getting damaged by toxins, free radicals and carcinogens. It’s very easy to include these wonderful cancer-fighting herbs in your diet. 


Oregano, thyme, rosemary, basil, marjoram, and mint

They are used as seasonings for your food. They are available as dried and fresh forms, the latter being more useful when it comes to antioxidant and anti-carcinogenic effect. They essentially contain terpenes, which have killer effect on cancerous cells. Furthermore, all these herbs enhance effectiveness of chemotherapy. However, above all, when you consume these herbs with your food regularly, your chances of having cancer is reduced by several times.


Green tea and red clover tea

Yet some more essential herbs that promise to fight against cancer are green tea and red clover tea. They contain powerful anti-oxidants which are capable of protecting cells from dangerous effects of carcinogens.  The compound epigallocatechin gallate present in green tea and isoflavones of red clover bring about the necessary benefits.
