Hair fall is probably the most common problem that almost all men and women face.  Losing hair is an eventual process and before you can imagine, you observe your hair line has receded and there’s sudden reduction in density of your hair. And then your senses are aroused! So why to wait for the damage? Start taking care of your hair and prevent hair fall.

Hot Oil Therapy

The key to stop hair fall is strengthening the roots of hair and nothing can outweigh the benefits of hot oil massage. Pick up any herbal hair oil or you can prepare a concoction as well. Oils that have promising benefits on hair are almond, olive, coconut, amla (Indian Gooseberry), lavender, jojoba, Brahmi, and sesame. Massage your hair thrice a week, followed by wrapping your hair with a hot towel. Leave the oil overnight for best results. Rinse off the next day.

Dab onion and garlic juice

Squeeze out the juice from onion and garlic. Mix them. Use your finger to dab them on the roots of your hair. Leave for an hour and rinse off with shampoo.

Hibiscus and Honey

Collect few red hibiscus flowers.  Grind the petals and form a smooth paste by adding honey. Cover your scalp with this mask and leave until it dries. Rinse with plain water and then massage your hair gently with oil.

Lettuce and Spinach

Lettuce and spinach being rich in iron is excellent for hair loss. You get the best results when you have half litre of the juice in a day for a certain period. Otherwise, you can cover your hair with the juice. Let your scalp soak the juice for an hour. Wash off with a mild shampoo.

Henna and Mustard Oil

Take half a bowl of mustard oil in an iron container. Warm the oil over low heat. Add henna leaves in the oil. Heat till the leaves turn brown. Turn off the heat and allow the oil to cool. Strain it. Massage your scalp with this herbal concoction.  

Aloe Vera

Be it the soft pulp or the juice, aloe vera is an effective treatment for hair loss. All you need to do is- apply the juice or the pulp all over your hair and scalp. Let it stay for an hour and then rinse off with a gentle shampoo.

Coconut Milk

The milk of coconut nourishes and strengthens your hair. Get fresh coconut milk and dab it all over your scalp and hair. You can also prepare the milk at home by grinding the soft pulp and squeezing out the milk.

Yogurt, egg white and henna

You can get a readymade pack of ground henna leaves. Soak them overnight in black tea liquor. Next day blend yogurt and egg white in it and form a smooth paste. Apply this mask on your hair. Leave on for 1-2 hours. Rinse it with water. Oil your hair and shampoo off next day.

Neem oil or neem paste

The fresh paste or juice of neem leaves not only prevents hair loss but also eliminates dandruff. You can apply the mask in the same way as henna pack and rinse off, followed by hot oil massage. The other option is to massage your scalp with neem oil.

Dos and don’ts for Hair Loss

  • Minimize exposing your hair to heat, e.g. hot water, steam, hair curlers, hair iron, etc.
  • Eat a balanced diet rich in vitamins (A, E),  minerals and omega-3 fats for reducing hair loss
  • Mediation regenerates hair and promotes health of hair
  • Do not comb your hair when it’s wet. Let it dry in air and then brush softly
  • Check for dandruff, flaky scalp, itching, lice and other hair problems. Get them sorted first
  • Cover your hair with a bandana while travelling to protect from sun, wind and pollution
