Salt increase blood pressure

Sep 13, 2011
Salt (sodium chloride) plays an important role in maintaining the fluid balance in the body. High salt level in the blood attracts more water into it. The increase of water content in blood increases blood volume which in turn increases blood pressure. For this reason the consumption of salt should be restricted. Food items like processed foods, pickles, bacon, cheese, salsa and canned foods should be avoided to decrease the intake of salt. The daily requirement of salt is 500 mg.
