Drinking too much alcohol may cross the placental barrier and lead to mental and physical birth defects in the unborn fetus. FASD (fetal alcohol spectrum disorders) and FAS (fetal alcohol syndrome) are the terms used for describing the problems associated with drinking alcohol during pregnancy.The damaging effects could include deforming the baby’s face and organs like heart, kidney, liver,and eyes. Alcohol can also affect nervous system which may lead to learning disabilities.
