Genital herpes increases the risk of HIV
Jun 12, 2015
Genital herpes leads to open sores on the body. In order to heal these sores, the body’s natural response is to send in many macrophages to the site. The HIV virus gains entry into the body through these open sores, during intercourse with an infected partner. It is these macrophages, to whom the HIV viruses attaches itself and replicates. Thus, genital herpes opens up many opportunities for the HIV virus to gain entry and cause an infection.
