Oct 11, 2011
Diabetic patients have reduced blood flow to the feet. Due to this the supply of oxygen as well as nutrients to the feet is less resulting in blisters, sores, cuts and swelling. Due to peripheral neuropathy (nerve damage) the patients feel numbness. They usually do not feel the cuts and blisters on the feet. For this reason, diabetic patients should check both feet daily. They should also wash their feet with warm water every day. However, the water should not be hot. Thereafter, the feet should be thoroughly dried especially between the toes. Moreover, the feet should be properly moisturized with petroleum jelly everyday after bath.
