Glycemic index value gives us the affect of carbohydrates on blood sugar level. Food items that have high glycemic index value release the carbohydrates quickly. The quick release of carbohydrates cause fluctuation in the blood sugar levels. For this reason food items with low glycemic index are advised for diabetic patients. Examples of food items with low glycemic index values are oats, muesli, soya, whole wheat, broccoli,cauliflower, cabbage, tomatoes, peanuts, walnuts, cashews, brown rice, spaghetti, lentils, and skimmed milk
