Omeprazole is pronounced as: oh MEP ra zol 
Omeprazole is a prescription drug available from your pharmacy store only with the prescription of a qualified medical practitioner. 
Omeprazole is a proton pump inhibitor. Omeprazole works by inhibiting the production of acid in the stomach.
Common uses of omeprazole

Omeprazole is used in the treatment of
  • Erosive oesophagitis 

Omeprazole along with antibiotics used to treat the gastric problems caused by the helicobacter pylori or (H. pylori )

Take the omeprazole tablets or capsules as directed by your doctor by mouth with or with out food with glass of water. If you do not understand the instructions on the prescription ask your pharmacist to explain them to you.
Omeprazole comes as delayed release capsule. Does not crush or chew the medication take it as a whole. If you have difficult to swallow open the capsule and sprinkle the pellets on the applause and swallow the applause with out chewing.
Omeprazole can be taken along with the antacids.
If you are taking omeprazole as OTC medication, use it for 3 to 4 days to have desired result. Omeprazole can not be taken more than two weeks with out doctor prescription. 
Children: Safety and efficacy of omeprazole is established for age 2 to 16 years old for the treatment of acid related problems.
Older people: Omeprazole can be safely used in older people however caution is advised as clinical studies have shown the elimination of omeprazole is decreased and bioavailabilty is increased in older people.
Pregnant women: omeprazole belongs to FDA pregnancy category C. This means that omeprazole may harm an unborn baby if used during pregnancy but potential benefit may warrant use of the drug in pregnant woman despite potential risks. Always inform your doctor if you are pregnant or are planning for conception.
Lactating women: It is not known whether omeprazole passes into breast milk or if it could harm the baby. Do not take omeprazole with out first talking to doctor if you are breast feeding a baby.
Other: Avoid drinking alcohol

  • Diarrhea

How do I store omeprazole

Store omeprazole at room temp (15 – 30 degrees C). Avoid excessive heat, moisture or direct sunlight, never store in the bathroom.
Keep it out of reach 
Omeprazole may cause dizziness caution is advised while driving and operating the machine.
Use complete course of the medication given by doctor do not stop the medication with out consulting the doctor. You might get the relief from the symptoms after you complete the total coarse of the medication.
Take the medication daily once preferable in the morning.
