Uses of this medication:

Doxycycline is broad spectrum antibiotic belongs to the class tetracycline. It is used in the treatment of Gonococcal infections, syphilis, acne and amoebic dysentery.

Doxycycline is also used in urinary tract infections.

Doxycycline is used as a prophylactic for “Traveler’s diarrhea” which is mainly caused by E. Coli in foreign trips.


How to use this medication:

Doxycycline can be taken with full glass of water with or without food. However it is advisable to take the medication after food to avoid stomach irritation.

If it is a in liquid form shake well before using the medication. It is advisable to use measuring cup for taking the dose.

Doxycycline should not be used in pregnancy. Doxycycline belongs to tetracycline, tetracycline damage the unborn baby teeth. Doxycycline passes through the breast milk and harms the baby. Inform the doctor if you are pregnant or nursing the baby.

Permanent discoloration of teeth in children and infants, GI upset, nausea, angioedema, and allergic reactions.


Dosage and Missed Dose:


For travelers it is given as 100mg daily. The dose starts 2 days before the travel to the malaria affected area and continues through out the travel and one month after leaving the malaria affected area.

The dosage is depend on the condition it is used for and severity of the disease. Your doctor will decide the dosage and length of the time the doxycycline is needed. Usually the doxycycline is taken 200mg daily in two divided doses every 12 hours.

Use the complete course of medication as prescribed by your physician even though you feel better after one or two days of usage of medication.


Missed dose: If you forget to take a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. Do not take two doses at same time to cover up the missed dose




This product should be stored at room temperature between (15-30 degrees C). Store it in a place where it won’t be exposed to excessive heat, moisture or direct sunlight never store in bathroom. Keep it out of reach of children. Make sure that any leftover portion is disposed of safely.

Doxycycline cause cross-resistance to other tetracycline group.

Doxycycline is mainly excreted in feces, it is the drug of choice for the treatment of extra renal infections in the patients suffering from renal impairment.
