Baclofen drug is used as a muscle relaxant and an antispastic agent. It acts on the nerves in the spinal cord and helps decrease the episodes as well as the severity of the muscle spasms. Baclofen also helps reduce the muscle pain and improves the muscle movement.
Baclofen is prescribed to patients with multiple sclerosis as well as other spinal cord injuries. The drug does not cure the muscle problems, but helps other treatments like physical therapy to help improve the condition considerably.

How to Use

Baclofen is a generic drug that is available in form of a tablet. This tablet needs to be taken orally. The drug is to be taken thrice a day at evenly spaced intervals. You need to follow the directions of your doctor carefully.


The dosage is adjusted according to the requirement of the patient. The dose taken each day depends on the strength of the medicine. As a muscle relaxant, the dose is 5 milligram three times a day for adults as well as teenagers.
Never take more than required of the prescribed drug. Do not stop taking the drug even if you start feeling well. Make sure you complete your dose.

Special Instruction

Baclofen can cause hallucinations, mood changes, mental depression, etc. in elderly patients. The effects of the drug in pregnant women is not known. Thus, speak to your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to get pregnant when using this medication. It is also not known if Baclofen  can pass through breastmilk and harm the nursing baby. Thus, do not breastfeed if you are using Baclofen .
Avoid giving Blacofen to children under 12 years of age. Baclofen can increase the risk of developing an ovarian cyst. Speak to your doctor about all the risks involved before taking the drug.
