Lansoprazole is a prescription drug available from your pharmacy store only with the prescription of a qualified medical practitioner.
What is lansoprazole
Lansoprazole is a proton pump inhibitor. Lansoprazole works by inhibiting the production of acid in the stomach.
- Lansoprazole is used in the treatment of Ulcer
- Gastro esphageal reflux disease
- Zollinger Ellison syndrome
- Erosive oesophagitis
Lansoprazole along with antibiotics used to treat the gastric problems caused by the helicobacter pylori or (H. pylori )
Take the lansoprazole capsules as directed by your doctor by mouth with food with glass of water. If you do not understand the instructions on the prescription ask your pharmacist to explain them to you.
Take lansoprazole once daily. If you are using it with other antibiotics to treat the infections caused by helicobacter pylori use it twice daily.
Lansoprazole comes as delayed release capsule. Does not crush or chew the medication take it as a whole. If you have difficult to swallow open the capsule sprinkles the pellets on the applause and swallows the applause with out chewing.
Children: Lansoprazole can be used safely for 1 to 17 years of age for the treatment of gerd.
Older people: It is safe to uselansoprazole in older people. However caution is advised as some individual are more prone to side effects.
Pregnant women: lansoprazole belongs to FDA pregnancy category B. This means that lansoprazole is safe during pregnancy and is not expected to cause any harm to the unborn baby. Always inform your doctor if you are pregnant or are planning for conception.
Lactating women: It is not known whether lansoprazole passes into breast milk or if it could harm the baby. Do not take lansoprazole with out first talking to doctor if you are breast feeding baby.

- Constipation or diarrhea
- Headache
- Nausea
How do I store lansoprazole
Store lansoprazole at room temp (15 – 30 degrees C). Avoid excessive heat, moisture or direct sunlight, never store in the bathroom.
Keep it out of reach of children. Make sure that any leftover portion is disposed off safely.
Inform your doctor if you are allergic to any other drugs in similar group or if you are suffering from liver disease.
Antacids can be taken along with lansoprazole.
