Causes of Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome
Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome is caused by tumors called gastrinomas. Gastrinomas produce a hormone in larger amount called gastrin. Gastrin causes excessive production of gastric acid which leads to gastrointestinal mucosal ulceration. The ulcers caused by Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome are less responsive to treatment than normal peptic ulcer.
Diagnosis of Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome
Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome is diagnosed by assessing the symptoms and also by testing the amount of gastrin in the blood.
By using Barium X ray and endoscopy we can diagnose the Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome.
