Natural remedies for dry mouth
Drying of mouth can be a consequence of health disorders, side effects of medicines or certain lifestyle and habits. Not only the mouth feels stretched and dry, but bad breath also comes out due to absence of saliva inside the mouth. Thus, you need to take care of the dryness inside mouth.
So how do you do that? We explain you some wonderful natural remedies for dry mouth.
1.Keep your body adequately hydrated. This will naturally prevent your mouth in drying. You need to drink at least 3-4 litres of water daily to meet the water demand of your body.
2.Pop in some aniseed and fennel seeds together to enhance production of saliva in your mouth. You can chew the mixture 2-3 times in day after your meal.
3.Mix one cup of liquid goldenseal with one pinch of baking soda. Swish the solution your mouth for 2 minutes without swallowing. It keeps your mouth moisturized. You can also swish your mouth with aloe vera juice.
4.Chewing a sugar free candy or gum immensely increases saliva inside the mouth. You can also keep a clove inside your mouth. Carry chewing gums and cloves while travelling.
5.Breathe with your nose consciously and keep your mouth closed while sleeping. Your mouth becomes completely dry when you breathe in through it. You can also increase the humidity of your room.
6.Steep equal amounts of dried rosemary, fresh mint leaves and aniseed in boiling water. Strain and refrigerate. Use it to gurgle your mouth after your meals.
7.Cut down on drinking caffeine and colas. Having too many cups of tea and coffee is bound to make your mouth dry. You can replace your daily cuppa with chamomile or green tea.
8.Avoid rinsing your mouth with alcohol based mouthwashes because they make your mouth dry. You can use a glass of water mixed with half teaspoon of salt to rinse your mouth.
9.Restore electrolyte balance inside your body to get rid of dry mouth. Prepare a drink by adding 1 tablespoon of sugar and salt, ½ teaspoon of baking soda and a few drops of lemon to a glass of water. Drink it few times in day along with plain water.
10. Spices are wonderful saliva stimulating agents. You can mix 4 ounces of water with half teaspoon of cayenne pepper and have it. The other option is- add one teaspoon of cardamom powder to a glass of warm water. It also improves your breath. However, drink in moderation.
11. Avoid eating salty and acidic products when you have a problem of dry mouth. To restore saliva inside mouth, have soft or fibrous foods like soups, gravies, broth, etc. You can also munch on some coriander and parsley leaves.
Remember to check with your doctor if some medicines are causing it. In that case, adjustment of dosage may be required to reduce drying of mouth.
