Conclusion about Yoga

Yoga is a very vast subject like the depth of an ocean and the endless expanse of the sky. Also, yogasanas and pranayama are a huge treasure of knowledge and information handed over to us by Patanjali Maharshi through his Yoga Sutras and Asthanga Yoga.

As already pointed in the earlier sections, the benefits from yogasanas are immense. It makes the practitioner feel fit and active, invigorates and rejuvenates the whole body, and makes the mind cool, calm and tranquil. It is a complete system, which protects the practitioner from physical and mental illness, if followed and practiced in the right way with proper breathing, preferably under the guidance of a competent yoga teacher/therapist.

To quote, Dr. BKS Iyengar during one of his teaching sessions, “The mouth is for eating, the nose is for breathing, if you breathe through the mouth, I will feed you through the nose”.

Yoga is for men and women

As far as women are concerned, the general feeling that women are not fit to receive knowledge and training in the field of yoga like men is slowly changing for good. It is known that women are actually much stronger than men when it comes to coping with stressful situations. A healthy woman can contribute to the health of herself, the children and the family as a whole, and it is in this context that yogasanas play an integral part. Sage Patanjali has nowhere said that yoga is for males only. Women have equaled and excelled men in almost every field and it should be the endeavor of more and more women to take up yogasanas and pranayama in their daily routine to achieve overall prosperity.

Yoga is good for elders

Elders comprise a big chunk of the population and it is natural that their health is maintained at a fairly good level. They should therefore make it a habit to spend at least 30–45 min daily for their own physical and mental upkeep. Yogasanas and Pranayama are the ideal answer to achieve this goal, as they are not strenuous like various other forms of gymnastic exercises. It is a fact that they will not be able to practice all the asanas, and it would suffice if a few of these could be chosen suiting to the individual needs and practiced.

To conclude, it can be said that in view of the enormous benefits in terms of physical and mental health and its suitability to everybody, yogasanas and pranayamas should be adopted without any bias in our daily lifestyle and enjoy its enormous benefits in terms of good health, freedom from illness and mental peace and tranquility.
