Coronary heart disease
Coronary heart disease (CHD) is also called as coronary artery disease (CAD).
In coronary artery disease the plaque (which
made up of fat, cholesterol, and calcium) builds up in the arteries and causes narrowing
of arteries. Building up of plaque in the arteries is also called as atherosclerosis.
Due to narrowing of blood vessels the enough oxygen rich blood does not reach the
heart this leads to chest pain (Angina) and heart attack.
Angina causes pressure and squeezing in the
chest, the pain may navigate to shoulders, arms, neck and back. When there is complete
block in the coronary artery, it leads to heart attack. Coronary artery disease
after some time can lead to heart failure.
