Uses of this medication:
Mefenamic acid is a Non steroidal anti inflammatory drug.
It is used to treat mild to moderate pain mainly in Dental pain, Post operative pain, dysmenorrhoea, osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis.
How to use this medication:
Take this medication by mouth with full glass of water, if it causes stomach upset or irritation then take with food.
What you need to discuss with your doctor or pharmacist before taking this medication:
Always remember to inform your health expert if you are taking any prescription or OTC medication.
Inform your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to NSAIDs or if you have following diseases
Heart attack, stroke, blood pressure.
Liver or kidney disease.
Or if you have smoking or drinking alcohol habit.
The pregnancy risk category is C. If you are planning to become pregnant or breast-feeding pl. make sure you notify to your health expert.
Side effects and when to consult your health expert:
GI disturbances, Bronchospasm,
Headache, drowsiness, insomnia,
Urticaria, rash.
Aplastic anemia.
If any of the above side effects become worse then consult your health expert.
Dosage and Missed Dose:
Dosage:
Mefenamic acid is given 500mg three times daily. or
Use as directed by your physician, your physician prescribes depending on the severity of disease.
Use the complete course of medication as prescribed by your physician even though you feel better after one or two days of usage of medication.
Missed dose: If you forget to take a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. Do not take two doses at same time to cover up the missed dose
Storage:
This product should be stored at room temperature between (15-30 degrees C). Store it in a place where it won’t be exposed to excessive heat, moisture or direct sunlight never store in bathroom. Keep it out of reach of children. Make sure that any leftover portion is disposed of safely.
General information:
Mefenamic acid increase the risk of life threatening heart attack or stroke. It is not used just before or after bypass surgery (Coronary artery bypass graft).
In elderly patients it should be used with great precaution, as they are more sensitive to side effects like kidney disease and stomach upset or irritation.
Dizziness and drowsiness effects may become worse if it is taken along with alcohol.
In children Mefinamic acid should be used with extreme caution as its effectiveness and safety has not been confirmed.
