Control Obesity for Preventing Type 2 Diabetes

Although obesity and type 2 diabetes are two different terms, a strong relationship exists between the two.

Obesity refers to a condition in which an excess amount of fat develops over one’s body. Talking about the type 2 diabetes, it is counted among one of the most common forms of diabetes. Type 2 diabetes is a situation in which a person’s blood sugar levels are higher than the normal level.

With the passage of time, incidence of obesity has been increased and so are the cases of Type 2 diabetes. You might wonder, how? Let’s find out the reason of the same.

As per the reports of International Diabetes Foundation, “In the 21st century, obesity and diabetes are considered as the biggest public health challenges for a mankind.”

Connection between type 2 diabetes and obesity

In the past few years, astounding growth has been observed in the number of people suffering from the obesity. From time to time, studies have shown that there is a direct relation between obesity and type 2 diabetes. If a person is obese, then more he will be prone to type 2 diabetes. Reason being; cellular changes are observed by an obese people that make certain cells resistant to insulin, a condition commonly referred as insulin resistance.

If any person experiences insulin resistance condition, then liver, muscle and fat cells become incapable of responding normally to the insulin. This results in producing excess amount of insulin by pancreas, which instead of passing into the cells remains in the blood only. So, if a person is obese, then his body possesses more fat cells rather than muscle cells. And this makes insulin less effective which in turn causes type 2 diabetes.

Risk factors and symptoms associated with obesity

Obesity is considered as the topmost risk factor for type 2 diabetes. However, the risk of obesity is not restricted to type 2 diabetes. Problems related to heart diseases, cancer, osteoarthritis, gall bladder disease, gallstone, etc are experienced in a frequent number by an obese person.

Some of the common symptoms of obesity include increased appetite, difficulty in performing daily activities, breathlessness, etc.

Treatments

Most of the treatments of the condition aim at controlling obesity that will naturally minimize the risk of type 2 diabetes.

  • Prevent obesity, prevent diabetes- Reduce the chances of getting affected from type 2 diabetes by maintaining an apt body mass index.A small change in the weight often leads toward cutting down the risk of type 2 diabetes significantly. Increasing physical activity, consuming low carbohydrate and high fiber rich diet, etc are some ways of reducing the weight. By losing weight not only risks of type 2 diabetes cuts down, but health problems such as blood pressure and cholesterol level also gets resolved.
  • Drugs used for Treating Obesity- Renin blocking drugs are those categories of drugs that work effectively not only in controlling the blood pressure, but also help in treating obesity and type 2 diabetes.

So, at last it can be only concluded that by following adequate weight control measures, get respite from obesity and type 2 diabetes and lead the life in a healthier manner.

Obesity is one condition that leads to type 2 diabetes.In simple words, it can be said that if a person is not obese, then the chances of getting affected from type 2 diabetes reduced significantly. So, shed out some extra kilos for not getting affected from severe health related problems.
