The term arthritis is used to describe inflammation in the joints that may be caused due to an array of causes. Arthritis is commonly used to refer to the various disorders of the bones and joints that result in inflammation of the affected joints along with numerous other features based on the organs or tissues affected. If left untreated these disorders may cause irreversible damage to the joints or bones and at times is life-threatening. Rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis are considered as the most common forms of arthritis, while arthritis is a common finding in other conditions such as ankylosing spondylitis, gout, osteoporosis, fibromyalgia, systemic lupus erythematosus, back pain, knee pain, sprains and strains, neck pain, and Paget’s disease of bone.
