Meat
 
Meat products that can be consumed:
 
Lean meats: The consumption of lean meat is to be restricted to one 3 oz serving/meal with five meals/week.
  • beef  - round, sibloin, chuck, loin, super lean hamburg
  • lamb - leg, arm, loin
  • pork - tenderloin, fresh leg, shoulder-arm
  • veal - all trimmed cuts, but should not be commercially ground
Meat products that are to be avoided:
 
Fatty meats:
  • corned beef
  • regular pastrami
  • mutton
  • ham
  • Canadian bacon
  • luncheon meats
  • short ribs
  • spareribs
  • bacon
  • sausage
  • frankfurters
  • canned meats
  • sandwich spreads
Poultry
 
Poultry products that can be consumed:
  • chicken and turkey with skin removed
Poultry products that are to be avoided:
  • self-basted poultry
  • processed poultry products such as turkey franks, chicken franks, turkey boloena
Eggs
 
Egg products that can be consumed:
  • egg whites
  • low cholesterol egg substitutes
Egg products that are to be avoided:
  • Egg yolks
  • Food prepared with egg yolks
Cheese
 
Cheese products that can be consumed:
  • skim or part-skim milk cheese such as mozzarella, ricotta, bakers, farmers, hoop
  • low-fat (1%) cottage cheese
  • pot cheese
  • special low-fat/low cholesterol cheeses
  • Weight Watchers cheese
Cheese products that are to be avoided:
  • cream cheese
  • processed cheese
  • cheese spreads
Beans
 
Bean products that can be consumed:
  • dried beans
  • peas
  • lentils
  • tofu
Bean products that are to be avoided:
  • regular canned peas
  • regular canned beans
  • regular canned lentils
Milk
 
Milk products that can be consumed:
  • skim, non-fat (fluid, powered, evaporated, condensed) milk
  • buttermilk
  • lactose-reduced and sweet acidophilus milk made from skim milk
Milk products that are to be avoided:
  • any milk product made with whole or 2% milk
  • chocolate milk
  • milkshakes
  • eggnog
  • coconut milk
Yogurt
 
Yogurt products that can be consumed:
  • Yogurt made from skim or non-fat milk
Yogurt products that are to be avoided:
  • Yogurt made from whole milk or custard style
