Symptoms of Angina Pectoris
Symptoms of angina may or may not disappear when the patient is at rest. The patient may have the typical chest pain, which radiates to the left side of the shoulder, arm, jaw and back. This radiation of pain is because of the close proximity of the spinal nerve receptors to this areas.1 The pain usually lasts for about 1–5 min and is relieved by taking rest or specific anti-angina medication. Pain may be accompanied by breathlessness, sweating and a feeling of doom in some patients.
The amount of activity that triggers an episode of angina and the symptoms involved vary from person to person and between episodes. Angina is typically precipitated by exertion or emotional stress. Some patients may experience autonomic symptoms (symptoms related to increased activity of the autonomic nervous system) such as nausea, vomiting and paleness.
