What are the Medications Advised for Acne?
Commonly, certain antibiotics (prescription drugs) that belong to the group of minocycline, erythrocycline, doxycycline and tetracycline are prescribed by the skin specialists, if the topical application of medicated creams or gels does not reduce the acne.
These antibiotics are generally prescribed as tablets or capsules that are to be taken for 6–8 weeks before results are evident. These medications may need to be continued for a period of six months.2
Oral contraceptives are also at times advised.
Regarding the dosage and duration of the antibiotic therapy, the dermatologist’s advice should be followed always.
